What the customer wanted

  • Stop the glare coming off the water in the late afternoon
  • Cool a two-story west-facing glass wall
  • Lose none of the lake view

How we approached it

Waterfront glass is a specific problem: the sun hits the window twice, once directly and once reflected off the lake. Homeowners are also — correctly — protective of the view they paid for.

Spectrally selective ceramic film is the only category that solves both. It rejects the infrared band while transmitting most visible light, so the room cools down and the water still looks like water.

Results

  • Spectrally selective film rejecting the large majority of infrared heat
  • Glare off the water reduced to a comfortable level
  • View through the glass is visually unchanged from inside
