The single biggest cause of premature coating failure is not the product. It is the automatic car wash down the street. Coatings are chemically durable and mechanically thin, which means harsh chemicals and spinning brushes will shorten a five-year coating to two.
The Wash Routine
Every two weeks, or after heavy rain or a road trip. Rinse thoroughly first to carry away loose grit. Use a foam cannon or a pre-soak so the heaviest dirt releases before any mitt touches paint.
Wash top down using two buckets with grit guards, one for soap and one for rinsing the mitt. Use a pH-neutral shampoo — nothing with wax or gloss additives, which just sit on top of your coating and mask its hydrophobics.
Dry with a clean plush microfiber or a filtered blower. Never let a coated car air dry in Texas hard water; the mineral spots are the one thing a coating does not prevent.

What to Avoid
Skip alkaline degreasers and traffic film removers on coated paint. Avoid abrasive polishes, which physically remove coating. Do not apply traditional carnauba wax over a coating — it fills the surface and kills the beading you paid for. And treat bird droppings and bug splatter as urgent: the coating buys you time before etching, not immunity.
The Maintenance Schedule
Every two weeks, wash as described. Every three to four months, apply a silica-based topper or coating maintenance spray, which refreshes surface hydrophobics and adds sacrificial protection. Once a year, bring it in for a decontamination service: iron removal, gentle chemical decon, and inspection of the coating layer.
Most manufacturer durability warranties require that annual inspection, so it protects your coverage as well as your finish.
